I am passionate about three things in life: 1. family, 2. learning, and 3. adventure. To me, these things are completely interrelated. Most of my memorable adventures have included my wife Sara, and without a doubt, have taught me some of the hardest lessons in my life. As a lifelong learner, I want to allow both the love and support I receive from my family, and the things I've learned from adventure to continually renew my passion to teach. I believe strongly in pushing my own limits, as well as the limits of students, and the limits of education. As an educator I want to share the things I've learned about myself, being part of a family, adversity, risk, joy, fear, and much more with the students I teach.

Education Philosophy
My education philosophy has been greatly influenced by the ideas of Paulo Freire, Alfie Kohn, Charles Barton, William Steele, Cathy Malchiodi, Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe.
In addition, my classroom management has been heavily influenced by Trauma Informed Practices (Steele & Malchiodi, 2012) and by Alfie Kohn’s, “Beyond Discipline” (Kohn, 2006). Each of these practices stress building a learning environment where, above all, students feel that they are valued, active members of a community. This is essential to learning.
